Lately, I've been reading a lot about the different environmental standards that are set forth for manufacturing and oil companies. The whole idea behind the standards is to protect the environment, wildlife, and people from hazardous materials that are in the environment.
I think it's really everyone's job to make sure that we move forward in an ecological society and everyone has to do their part. We are very avid recyclers and do whatever it takes to recycle paper, cans, and other items.
The hard part of all of this is that it's a universal problem but it doesn't seem like everyone is trying to solve the problem! When I lived in Houston I had never heard of recycling. We threw absolutely everything away including cans, paper, and batteries!
BP Whiting Refinery Fact Sheet has now been published to let people know of the different things they are doing to help with environmental issues.
A few things that the article points out are:
They are now investing three billion dollars for their Whiting refinery to get up to date and also make sure that they are meeting and exceeding all government standards.
They are also making sure that they are releasing 99.9% clean water into the environment. If there is sludge then they are releasing that through a seperate purification process that will help break down the sludge.
They are well within environmental standards and are working daily to increase their impact on the environment and the earth.
